小的时候不喜欢看戏。咿咿呀呀，扭来扭去，有什么话从来也不会好好说的。远不如电影的刀光剑影、直来直去。但看戏于我确又有一次特别的记忆，多少年过了也不能忘记。
很早年了，是五、六岁时的事。老家有个邻村过庙会晚上唱戏，母亲背着我、带着大我四岁的二姐走了五里多路去过会并看戏。*时很少出门的母亲那天很兴奋，像过年一样给我和姐姐换上了新衣，说今天我引你们去赶会看戏。母亲那时还不到四十，梳着长长的辫子，一收拾也是挺好看、挺整齐的。
农历四月的上旬，天气已经暖和、沿途路边小草遍地。我们是在家吃了午饭才动身，一路走着就去了那个村里。那天的村街赶会的人很多，街道两旁的货摊卖许多东西。一派熙熙攘攘、到处男男女女。母亲背着我走着看着，还就给我买了一杯放了糖精的红颜色凉水。那水就放在不大的玻璃杯里，杯口用正方小玻璃盖着、搁在一个低矮的小方桌上面。一杯水好像要花一分钱，姐姐只是尝了尝，母亲没舍得再买一杯。
后来转悠的太阳西了，母亲站到街边一棵树下不走了，也不让我和姐姐乱跑。她好像是在等人，但我不知道她在等谁。
好像过了很久，母亲突然抱起我说：你看谁来了？我回头一看，朝我们走来的竟然是我爹！是我爹一手扒拉着行人、一手向我们挥着走来了。父亲的个头很高，梳着背头，黑油油的头发在阳光下亮闪闪地。特别是我清楚记得父亲那天的上衣口袋里别着一支钢笔——父亲过来从我母亲的怀里接过了我，我就非要耍他那支笔。父亲一边将钢笔抽出来给到了我手里，一边笑着警告我说：跌到地上摔坏了可小心我打你。

我永远记得那天晚上的吃饭“细节”：父亲把我们带到了那个村的大队开办的临时食堂、给我们用很大的碗盛满了猪肉很多的大烩菜和白面馍馍，母亲喂我吃了好多。饭后，父亲又抱着我带着母亲和姐姐到人山人海的戏场里去看戏。在要进入挤得一塌糊涂的戏场大门时，父亲拍了拍“把门人”的肩膀，“把门人”没有向我们要门票，父亲又带我们挤到离戏台很*的一排躺着的树杆前坐了。那排树干的周围挤满了看戏的人，但我们坐的那个地方空了些能坐人的位座位。
那天晚上的戏叫《回荆州》，是母亲后来跟我说的。我记得戏台上一个披红挂绿的女人出来唱一会儿、又回到后场去、来来*。听到母亲问父亲说这就是那个“小电灯？”父亲说是！你不看她出来进去都有人专门挑帘子呢！——“小电灯”是老家一个梆子剧种的大明星的艺名。当然，这也是后来才知道的。
