Based on the current education system in China, the result of the two day exam greatly impacts the future of any students in China. The score will decide whether you can receive college education. For most places in China, only half of the students are eligible for college education (only 3.40 million will be admitted to colleges in 2003) and the rest has to start work after high-school. In cities like Beijing and Shanghai, students are lucky enough to have a much higher ratio (more than 70%) to enter colleges.

英语是当今世界广泛使用的语言，是国际交流与合作的重要沟通工具，是思想与文化的重要载体。学*和使用英语对吸取人类优秀文明成果、借鉴外国先进科学技术、传播中华文化、增进*与其他国家的相互理解具有重要的意义和作用。为了促进英语的高效教学，新课程标准提出英语核心素养的先进理念。
英语学科核心素养是学生在接受相应学段英语课程教育的过程中，逐步形成和提升的适应个人终身发展和社会发展需要的必备品格和关键能力，综合表现为四大素养，由语言能力、文化品格、思维品质和学*能力组成。就其关系而言，语言能力是基础要素，文化品格是价值取向，思维品质是心智表征，学*能力是发展条件。英语学科核心素养涵盖了知识、能力和态度，四大核心素养相互渗透，融合互动，协调发展，是所有学生应具有的、学以致用的基础性综合素养。
为了更好提高落实新课标，提高学生的核心素养，我结合核心素养的四个方面谈一下自己的体会和建议。
一、探究课程内容，提升语言能力
语言能力是指在社会情境中，以听、说、读、看、写等方式理解和表达意义、意图和情感态度的能力。英语语言能力构成英语学科核心素养的基础，是学生发展文化品格、思维品质和学*能力的依托。英语语言能力的提高有助于学生拓宽文化视野，丰富思维方式，在全球化背景下开展跨文化交流。
教师要深入研读语篇，把握教学核心内容。研读语篇就是读者对语篇的主题、内容、文体结构、语言特点、作者观点等做深入的解读。教师要积极研究如何在教学中落实培养学生学科核心素养的目标，探索有效的教与学的方式，努力实践以主题意义为引领的英语学*活动观，实施深度教学。教师必须深入研究课程内容，提炼重点，设计有效的教学活动，通过听说读写训练，提高学生的语言能力。
二、发掘优秀文化思想，培养文化品格
文化品格是指对中外文化的理解和对优秀文化的认同，是学生在全球化背景下表现出的文化意识、人文修养和行为取向。文化品格体现英语学科核心素养的价值取向。文化品格的培育有助于学生树立世界眼光，增强国家认同感和家国情怀，学会做人做事，成长为有文化修养和社会责任感的人。
落实立德树人根本任务，培养学生英语学科核心素养。教师应当充分把握教材的编写理念、设计思路应突出英语学科的育人价值，有机融入社会主义核心价值观，将立德树人的根本任务落到实处。要紧密围绕、依据学科核心素养来确立教材内容，无论是语篇和主题的选择还是相应的教学活动设计，都要体现对学科核心素养的培养价值，有利于学生发展语言能力，形成良好的文化品格和思维品质，学会学*，树立正确的价值观和审美观，提高学生的文化品格。
三、创设丰富多彩活动，促进思维品质升华
思维品质指人的思维个性特征，反映其在思维的逻辑性、批判性、创造性等方面所表现的能力和水*。思维品质体现英语学科核心素养的心智发展。思维品质的发展有助于提升学生分析问题和解决问题的能力，从跨文化的视角观察和认识世界，对事物作出正确的价值判断，促进学生的深度学*。

I feel so happy to have the chance to make a speech. The title of my speech is Protect the Environment, Protect Ourselves. I hope you will like it.
Everybody knows waste paper and used coke cans are discarded everywhere. You might have seen plastic bags flying in the sky and getting caught in the trees when the wind blows or maybe you have seen old cans floating in the rivers and polluting the water. Our environment is the place in which we live, but it is being ruined by us.
There is a story about house and trees. It is said that a man’s house was surrounded by a lot of trees. Though the wind was strong, that man could have a good rest under the trees. How comfortable the life was! One day, that man wanted to enlarge his house, so he cut down all the trees. Then the autumn came without the protection. The strong wind blew the roof of the house into the sky. The whole house was gone with the wind. What a pity! But that’s the price people have to pay for destroying in the ecology balance. People shouldn’t be short-sighted. Protecting the environment is everyone’s task.
As you know, there are four kinds of pollution. They are air pollution, water pollution, waste pollution and noise pollution. But what can we do to solve the pollution？I think, firstly, we can make cars that don’t pollute the environment. We can ask companies to use modern clean technology. In some big cities, we can limit the number of cars. Secondly, we can try to use less water and make sure that we do not pollute the water. We can tell factories that they are not allowed to pour waste water into the lakes and rivers. Thirdly, we should not throw rubbish in parks and cities. We can pick up rubbish if we see it. We can put more rubbish bins in our parks and cities. Fourthly, we can live far from the noise and make the laws to limit the noise.
The air, water and the whole atmosphere directly influenced our lives, such as the air, people may cough and it will lead to cancer. So we must try our best to keep the world clean and tidy. To reach it, I want to put forward three points to everybody---Point 1：don’t spit and liter；Point 2：don’t draw on the wall；Point 3：clean the streets every day.
In order to make the environment clean, let’s join our hands together to make the world better.

今天我们在这里举行会议是为了迎接2010年的第一场战役，也就是第一次质检，当然，我们的最终目的是迎接高考。现在，英语学*进入了一个非常关键的阶段，也是一个瓶颈阶段。不少高三学生虽然努力学*英语，但仍然没有明显的进步，有时会感到力不从心，手足无措。其实最主要的原因可能在于学*方法上出现了一些问题。在这里我给大家提几点建议供大家参考。
一、制定计划。要想学好一门语言，首先要一个切实可行的计划，用以指导自已的学*，古人说得好“凡事预则立，不预则废。”做事有计划就不会打乱仗，也不会感到盲从。
二、专心听课。课堂是获取知识的主要来源，上课是学生进解和掌握基础的基本技能并在此基础上发展认知能力的一个关键环节，这就要求同学们始终保持高度集中的注意力，力争在课内就把一节课的内容记住，当堂消化。
三、及时复*。知识贵在落实，课后及时复*能加深和巩固对新知识理解和记忆，系统在掌握新知识以达到灵活运用，即知识迁移的目的。
四、掌握正确的记忆方法。英语是一门记忆很强的学科，要大量积累词汇。很多同学最烦记单词，总是抱怨记不住，以致于丧失了信心。这是因为你没有了解到记忆的规律，没有掌握记单词的技巧。现在我给大家介绍几种方法。
1。及时记忆法，要求上课时认真听讲，争取趁热打铁，当堂记住。
2。联想记忆法，如bridegroom和bride。有room的是新郎
3。分类记忆法，把单词分门别类，如动物、植物类。
4。感官记忆法也叫运动记忆法。尽可能发用多种感官，耳听、口读、手写、眼看、心记等。
5。构词记忆法，通过分析词根、前缀、后缀、派生和合成等记忆单词。
6。情景记忆法，把某个单词放在一个句子或者一段话中去记忆。
7。比较记忆法，反义词、同义词、同音词。
8。拼读记忆法，读准单词的发音是记住单词的前提，拼读记忆首先要求把单词读准确，充分认识单词的读音与拼写之间的关系。如enthusiastic
9。循环记忆法，任何先进的单词记忆法都必须进行反复记忆。学了可能会遗忘，为了防止遗忘，一定要不断发进行阶段性复*。可以把单词和重点句子写在长片上放在口袋里或贴在桌子上、放在枕头连随时记忆。有些单词不是你记不住，而是你重复的次数不够多。
五、培养良好的语感。什幺是语感？语感具有一听就清，一说就顺，一写就通，一读就懂的功能。那幺，怎样培养语感呢？
1。从听力训练开始，在听力方面，一是听课文录音带，去感知模仿形成正确的语音、语调，二是听英语广播、电视节目及原声电影等，三是认真对待我们*时的听力训练，要沉着、冷静、细心，抓关键词，瞄准下一个句子和题目。
2。朗读、背诵是培养语感的捷径。主要是多读课文及听力教材，要将一个单词读准，一个句子读顺，一篇文章读烂，*时朝读时要最大声、最快速、最清晰地读。通过诵读，同学们可对文章的语意、语法、语气、语调、节奏、重音了然于心。
3。要进行广泛阅读。阅读是吸收语言材料的最好途径，实践证明，学生阅读面越宽，语言实践越大，阅读理解能力便越强。只有通过读，才能够获得最大的实践量，才能享受到学*外语的真正甜头和学*的乐趣。阅读的数量多了，一些常用词汇、句式结构自然在脑子中形成了印象，也就逐渐形成了语感。现在我们每天至少应阅读一两篇文章。
4。多积累多写作是培养语感的必经之路。在*时写日记、周记，考试时尽量使用通过积累的高级词汇和句型，这样才能有效地提高写作水*。
六、要注重课本，排查要点，各个击破。这几年高考中都有课文中的原句子，同学们要善于发现隐藏在课文中的命题胚胎。
七、要持之以恒，孜孜不倦。俗话说“一日学，一日功”，“一日不学，十日空”。也就是要讲究一个“勤”字，做到天天读，天天背，天天练，天天总结，养成一种好*惯，这样你就离成功不远了。
八、要提高自已的应试素质，把*时的考试当作高考，把高考当作*时的考试。
九、相信自己，强烈的自信心和必胜的信念是我们最大限度地发挥水*的致胜法宝。我们每个人身上都有巨大的潜力有待开发，一定要珍惜时光，找准人生的奋斗目标，不断努力，最大限度开发你的潜力，你是最优秀的。

As a correspondent of the Qingdao Morning News, I visited Dr. James Gilman, the President of the International Committee for Marco Polo Studies in England. In this picture, this is James, and this is me and we are looking at a dragon’s tooth. This is a true story.
65 years ago, James lived in Qingdao. Then he was only 5 years old. He often visited the Aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon. He was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted one to keep as a treasure.
In the late 1930s, when the Japanese occupied Qingdao, his family had to leave. On his last day in Qingdao, he ran to the Aquarium and pulled out one of the teeth from the dragon’s mouth.
He kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at having stolen it was there in the background all through his life. It was always on his conscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older. Finally he decided to put right his childish error. In 2002, he visited Qingdao and returned it to the Aquarium with his sincere apologies. He received a warm welcome.
When James visited Qingdao, I accompanied him all the time and reported on his visit. I was dee*** touched by his honesty. It has taught me a lot. I think to err is human. The important thing is to have the courage to admit and correct one’s error.

He was a common 58-year-old peasant in Tongnan ,Chongqing. What makes him well-known is that he has been repaying a debt, which replaced his dead son. In 2001, his son, Wu Jun, borrowed money from his relatives and then bought a truck to make a living from it. However, in 2003, a misfortune befall him as well as his family was involved. He died in a car accident, leaving a 4-year-old child and 19 thousand debt. On the day of bury, he cried at his son’s grave, and said, don’t worry, I will replace the debt instead of you. After that, he was in great distress over the death of his son, but still was strong and alive. However, 19 thousand debt was a really huge sum for him, so for repaying the debt, he just reclaimed all the wasteland in the mountain, the total area 52 mu and became the largest local grower. How much is the 52 mu? Let’s make a calculation together. Each mu is approximately equal to 666 square meters, so 52 mu is about 35 thousand square meters, and is approach to the area of 5 qualified football court. Can you imagine that? An old man cultivated a so huge area. It means that he had to work day and night, and actually he did so. At the same time, for repaying the debt, he has been lived frugally, and the clothes he wore were all from others’. While he was still optimistic, he would rather lived hard himself but to be responsible to all the creditors.
