Since environmental protection is an international issue, we must constantly introduce the advanced and practical practice in other countries to our general public. One day in 1819, 3,000 miles off the coast of Chile, in one of the most remote regions of the Pacific Ocean, 20 American sailors watched their ship flood with seawater.
Theyd been struck by a sperm whale, which had ripped a catastrophic hole in the ships hull. As their ship began to sink beneath the swells, the men huddled together in three small whaleboats.
These men were 10,000 miles from home, more than 1,000 miles from the nearest scrap of land. In their small boats, they carried only rudimentary navigational equipment and limited supplies of food and water.
These were the men of the whaleship Essex, whose story would later inspire parts of “Moby Dick.”
Even in todays world, their situation would be really dire, but think about how much worse it would have been then.
No one on land had any idea that anything had gone wrong. No search party was coming to look for these men. So most of us have never experienced a situation as frightening as the one in which these sailors found themselves, but we all know what its like to be afraid.
We know how fear feels, but Im not sure we spend enough time thinking about what our fears mean.
As we grow up, were often encouraged to think of fear as a weakness, just another childish thing to discard like baby teeth or roller skates.
And I think its no accident that we think this way. Neuroscientists have actually shown that human beings are hardwired to be optimists.
So maybe thats why we think of fear, sometimes, as a danger in and of itself. “Dont worry,” we like to say to one another. “Dont panic.” In English, fear is something we conquer. Its something we fight.
Its something we overcome. But what if we looked at fear in a fresh way? What if we thought of fear as an amazing act of the imagination, something that can be as profound and insightful as storytelling itself?
Its easiest to see this link between fear and the imagination in young children, whose fears are often extraordinarily vivid.
When I was a child, I lived in California, which is, you know, mostly a very nice place to live, but for me as a child, California could also be a little scary.
I remember how frightening it was to see the chandelier that hung above our dining table swing back and forth during every minor earthquake, and I sometimes couldnt sleep at night, terrified that the Big One might strike while we were sleeping.
And what we say about kids who have fears like that is that they have a vivid imagination. But at a certain point, most of us learn to leave these kinds of visions behind and grow up.

when i was a naughty boy, may be because of the influence of the film.xiao bing zhang ga,my dream was to be a soldier just like zhang ga.i thought if i was a soldier, i should be able to swim, dive and climb trees as he did.it seemed to be very wonderful.so i began to learn swimming, diving and climbing trees.i practiced every day and finally i could do them well.but when i entered junior high school and had the military training.i suddenly found that being a soldier was very difficult and i wasnt strong enough to bear it .i had to give my dream up.

We Are The World ,We Are The Future
Someone said “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”. I don’t know who wrote these words, but I’ve always liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want it to be. We are all in the position of the farmers. If we plant a good seed ,we reap a good harvest. If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.
We are young. “How to spend the youth?” It is a meaningful question. To answer it, first I have to ask “what do you understand by the word youth?” Youth is not a time of life, it’s a state of mind. Nowadays, lots of people start to realize that zoos are not a good place for animals. People need zoos because it is an easy way to close the animals and also because it's convenient for people to observe them. However, zoos are in fact a cruel place for animals. Animals should live in their natural habitat. An animal's natural instinct is to run and to hunt. But that's not for animals kept in zoos. Everyday, people feed them. They've never been taught how to hunt for food and will gradually lose their natures. That will be quite cruel for a animal, especially for wild animals such as tigers and lions. You can often find in zoos that a tiger kept in cage has a loose expression in its face.We set animals in zoos and therefore feel that they won't meet danger and may be able to protect them from dying out. With the increase of global Internet users and the rapid development of related technology, in recent years, people are developing an inseparable relationship with internet ,as is known to all ,it is convenient for us to click the mouse when surfing on line ,either to entertain or to meet the work’s need .and I still believe that In the near future, the network will affect people's life and society further .
One the one hand ,no one denies that internet is currently one of the most useful media in our daily life ,as a college student ,I get on line everyday to obtain and exchange information with it ,we have to say internet do a great help for all of us. Everything lives with opposite forces. The same can be said about modern technology, such as Internet. We also have enough evidence indicating that the Internet can be a harmful influence on people. A great many people admit that they are too much addicted to internet too maintain a regular and
health lifestyle . Some children addicted in playing the games on the internet without study .Some of the people using the internet to do some illegal things which loses people's properties and hurt someone's feelings.
Thus ,it is necessary for us to use internet in a reasonable way and restrain from overindulgence .after all. internet is invented to enrich our life ,and to improve the effiency of our work rather than shackle us with a chain . I am honored to stand here to share with you on such a important subject as climate ,it is global warming .
Let me give you two phenomenons.
Here is the first one. More and more people used to be using air condition ，but how many people ever thought whether this new ?hobby? will bring side-effects or not? Maybe just few people. In fact, the side-effect is apparent. The emissions of gases exhausted from air conditioning contain a lot of methane (这里可以停顿一下)which could cause global warming. By the way, air conditioning will waste a lot of electricity .
The second one is about the increasing amount of cars. According to the statistics, in 21st century, there are 7 millions cars in the world, a large amount of exhaust gases has seriously influenced us, such as: cough, throat inflammation.
This two phenomenons are just few part of reason which change our environment badly. There are many other reasons.
In nearly 100 years, the average global temperature experienced twice fluctuations which is "cold-warm-cold-warm". Generally, it is the trend that global climate is becoming warmer and warmer . In 1980s,global temperature rised apparently. According to Chinese scientists, the average temperature in China has risen by 1.1 degrees
centigrade in the last 5 decades. It is higher than the reported global average. We are seeing more frequent bouts of extreme weather in many parts of the country. For example, last spring, the most severe drought in 50 years hit northern China affecting the livelihood of 4 million people. Environmental damage and climate change is a reality for us. Out of the world?s most polluted 20 cities, half are in China,70% of Chinese rivers are polluted . China has become the largest carbon emitter of the world.
It is really thought-provoking(发人深省). Who pays for it ? First,as the pace of human high-tech development process goes quiker and quiker, the side-effects with the science development reflected, global warming is one example. more and more greenhouse gases with the development of economy are being discharged into the t 70% of the greenhouse gases has been composed of carbon dioxide,which is considered as one of the greatest causes of global warming . It has harmful effects,causing the sea level to raise and many natural disasters to strike. On the other hand , scientists in one wave after another try to awaken us to the growing threat of global many coutries tend to turn a deaf ear(充耳不闻) to the scientists? fact,the earth?s atmosphere is definitely being warmed and the problem is largely man-made. A wise way is that we should get moving to protect ourselves. So the public demand that all nations should taket strong measures to prevent the increase of the earth?s temperature.
In my opinion, it is the high time for us to take action. In order to save the earth, we should try to do things below: no air conditioning, use recycled paper,abandon meat food, don?t use plastic bags,take a is little drops of long as everyone takes action, it will be a powerful strength to rescue our planet. All countries are supposed to take the legislative initiative as soon as in this way can the global warming be put under control.

for a long time,people have exploited mineral resources for developing industry. the wide use of mineral resources causes a lot of pollutions. for example,burning oil can emit carbon dioxide and many other harmful gases.the carbon dioxide contributes to global warming which also leads to the melt of iceberg .besides mineral resources ,woodwhich is the most common material also attracted people's attention.according to the report ,in every one minute ,there are 20xx square meters of forest being destroyed.as people cutting down trees crazily, serious desertification appears ,sandstorm is getting more and more frequent,and the earth is hardly keep its temperature .look what we've done to our planet ! it's time for us to heal the world ! fortunately , more and more people have realized that the earth is sick and people are also in big trouble.thus alow-carbon life style is advocated,and in some countries the private cars are not allowed to drive ever day.
guys, as teenagers of the 21st century,as the children of the earth ,i think we have duties to save our planet.let's start from the small things in our daily life .such as planting a tree, using the public transportation , saving tap water ,stopping littering around ,… these are all easy things for us. as the old saying goes ,"drop by drop fills the tub" . if we do work together ,i believe we're gonna make a great difference toward the earth.so let's start by ourselves,start by today!that's all.thanks for your attention?
In the past two years, my parents took me to travel to many places, including big cities, small towns, famous mountians and so on. Therefore, I like traveling and I hope I can visit to many more places.
Since then, I hope I can be a tour guide in the future, so I can travel to many tourist attractions. Besides, I can meet various people and I think municating with different people is interesting, wchich can broaden my field of vision.

helen keller was an amercian writer ,she was born in 1880.she was deaf-blind because she had a disease when she was 1 year old.but with the help of her teacher anne sullivan,she learned to talk with her fingers,speak,write and read the books for blinders.she became a student of harvard university and she became a great writer.she died in 1968.
now,i’ll tell you the story about her.one day ,in the afternoon,helen and mrs sullivan had a dispute of the word “cup”and “water”.mrs sullivan wanted helen to know “cup”is”cup”,”water”is”water”.but helen couldn#39;t understand the difference between”cup”and “water”.she thought”water”could be “cup”and”cup”could be “water”.mrs sullivan had not ideas ,so she let helen praciece the word “doll”and touch the doll with helen’s fingers. helen was angry and bored,she threw the doll to the ground.then ,mrs sullivan and helen went out to play.when mrs sullivan washed helen’s hands,the water was flowing on helen’s hands.mrs sullivan wrote the word ‘water’on helen’s hand.she wrote many times,helen knew the water was flowing on her hands and understood the meaning of the word”water”suddenly.in the same way,helen learnd many many new words.finaly she became a great writer.

My Definition of Success

It is easy to describe success in terms of money， fame and reputation. But I believe that success is not external. I believe that success comes from within. My definition of success is to be true to yourself， and be true to others. That means， that you must cherish your personal ideal even in the face of adversity. I also believe that success is not discriminatory. Success is not restricted to such a class of people， in fact， it may be achieved by any person irrespective of his race， creed， gender and economic background. A good example of success is that of Beethoven. He is one of the world's most famous composers， yet he was deaf. He could not hear the majestic pieces of music that he created. Yet， in the face of this adversity， he was able to maintain his ideals——that of composing music.
To exemplify what success means to me， I pose a question to all of you. What brings us together here today？ I believe that it is the beauty of the spoken word. The effect of pause and the sound of rhetoric are unique to the spoken word. I believe the beauty of the spoken word is even stronger for those who have difficulty in expressing themselves.
These people are reclusive and had their emotions hidden within them. I once went to Australia and I saw two pictures， Once was drawn by a normal child， the other was drawn by a child with social inhibitions. The picture drawn by the normal child was simple and plain. The other was life—like， full of details and imagination. What this shows is that these are ideas， emotions and feelings that are locked internally in thesechildren.
My ideal is to be the key， spreading the beauty of the spoken words to these children. These children have been neglected， but I feel that I can and should help these children to find themselves and be able to express themselves.
I realize that this is a difficult task， and there are many obstacles on the way. But I believe in my ideals and I will stick to them——even in the face of adversity. We should never have a premature abortion of ideals——let the child， let our ideals， stand the challenge. For a life without ideals is not living.
